Disclaimer: I received these exfoliating face pads – the Skin Rise Morning Glow from Exuviance. After incorporating it into my skincare routine for 21days, I share my honest review.
Have you always wanted to achieve a radiant complexion with your skincare routine? Then you must have been told about the beauty of exfoliating your face, right?
With so many exfoliating options in the market, from physical to chemical exfoliators, you must be wondering what to go for. I’ve used physical scrubs like sugar before and it could work but can be slightly irritating when one scrubs by force.
I’ve also used other chemical exfoliators and I love them more than physical scrubs. But since I tried exfoliating pads, I’m having a good time. So, have you heard about exfoliating face pads or peel pads?

What Are Exfoliating Face Pads?
Also known as ‘at-home peel pads’, exfoliating pads are applicator pads soaked in rejuvenating toner, usually packed with alpha and beta hydroxy acids. This helps to project a perfectly balanced and radiant complexion.
Peel pads are designed to help to further the exfoliation process thanks to their mesh or nubby texture.
Exfoliating face pads are perhaps the quickest and easiest way to brighter-looking skin without a facial.
With a few swipes using a peel pad, your skin will literally have an instant facial! It will look more radiant, all thanks to its powerful resurfacing ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and other brightening ingredients like Vitamin C.
For better results, you want to continue with the use, in order to maintain the glow.
Why Use Exfoliating Face Pads?
If you’re looking for an amazing exfoliating treatment, you want to try exfoliating peel pads as well. They:
- Invigorate stressed skin,
- Helps to gently exfoliate the skin’s surface. Apart from the exfoliating acids, most pads are even textured, so they give your skin a gentle manual exfoliation as well.
- Reveal a youthful radiance by providing an antioxidant and luminous effect on the skin,
- Enhance the skin’s clarity, smoothness, and firmness,
- Provide multi-antioxidant protection and also protect stressed skin from free radicals and harmful environmental factors,
- Also, help to prepare the skin for maximum benefits from your daily skincare regimen.
Since exfoliating face pads are usually made of acids, they also help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, fade dark spots, pigmentation, and acne scars as well as clear and prevent acne breakouts with continued usage.
What To Look For In Exfoliating Face Pads
Since exfoliating face pads seem to be such a holy grail product, depending on their ingredients, your skin might enjoy different benefits.
Whether you choose pads with AHAs, BHAs, PHAs, LHAs, or their combinations is up to you.
While AHA and BHA are common chemical exfoliants, LHA and PHA are newer on the scene. These exfoliants help shed dead and old skin cells to reveal more radiant skin. However, each of these acids caters to people with particular skin types.
Here’s the difference from the First Derm site:
1. PHAs ( polyhydroxy acids )
They include gluconolactone, lactobionic acid, and maltobionic acid. They gently exfoliate the skin and retain moisture hence can provide visible improvements in sun-damaged skin.
They are also great for sensitive skin such as rosacea or eczema. WHY? They have larger molecular structures compared to AHAs, they penetrate the skin less and work more slowly.
Unlike AHA, PHA does not make the skin more sensitive to sunlight.
2. AHAs ( alpha hydroxy acids )
They include glycolic acid, lactic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid, malic acid, and mandelic acid. They are good for exfoliating the skin’s surface thus most helpful to people with dry, rough skin.
However, AHAs tend to be more irritating and will make your skin sun-sensitive. So, be sure to use sunscreen afterward.
3. BHAs (beta hydroxy acids)
They include salicylic acid ( commonly known for its ability to treat acne and help with blackheads, and also, exhibit sun protective abilities ) and some forms of citric acid.
BHAs are fat-soluble and penetrate the skin more deeply than AHAs to unclog pores and decrease oil production, thus, they are great for people with oily skin.
They will both exfoliate the skin’s surface and deep-clean your pores.
4. LHA ( lipo hydroxy acids )
LHAs are derived from salicylic acid and serve a similar purpose. However, they are more gentle as they penetrate the skin more slowly, and are more fat-soluble than BHAs.
Therefore, they are useful for people with sensitive skin, for exfoliating and treating acne.
Apart from picking an exfoliating pad product with the right type of exfoliating acid for your skin, you ought to be more careful if you have sensitive skin.
Limit or avoid products with silicones, alcohol, sulfates, acetones, witch hazel, parfum, and essential oils as they might cause irritations.
Can You Use Exfoliating Pads Everyday On Your Face?
Wondering how often you should be using exfoliating pads?
Well, since exfoliating face pads are usually soaked in exfoliating acids, you want to use them at most two to three times per week, and if you have sensitive skin, then once or twice per week.
Signs of over-exfoliating include:
- peeling, and
- sensitivity to other skincare products.
Also, apply caution when using the peel pad around the eyes and neck since acids may be too strong for the delicate skin in these areas.
How To Use An Exfoliating Face Pad
When you first start using an exfoliating face pad, clean your face using a gentle cleanser and give it a few minutes to work before applying your moisturizer. You also want to avoid over-cleansing and over-exfoliating your face using a facial cleansing brush.
Before using it, ensure the pad is moist and apply light pressure in a circular motion on your face. While some peel pads involve a swipe then letting the acids sink into your skin, others need to be rinsed off. So, read the directions!
Also, go for peel pads with an acid of lower concentration, say a 10% peel, then you can ramp up once your skin gets acclimated to it.
Exfoliating peel pads might have a tingling sensation because of the acids. Thus, use just enough of the product as you get started.
Dr.Austin says on Glamour that, “once you notice less tingling, you can ramp up your usage but in case of any irritations, just splash water on your face to stop the acid from continuing to penetrate your skin until you work up more of a tolerance. “
It is best to use peel pads at night since newly revealed skin can be sensitive to sunlight. And remember to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen, of at least SPF 50, in the morning, too—regardless of the weather!
Do not use both acids and retinoids since they are both exfoliating ingredients. That’s just too much for the skin!

About My Skin: Oily Skin That Thrives On Exfoliation Yet Very Reactive
I have oily skin that is textured. Around my nose, forehead, and chin areas, I have large pores and whiteheads tend to form at these spots too soon.
My skin usually requires exfoliation to get rid of all the dullness. So, I do so between 2-3 times a week.
Since my skin is reactive, I’m very gentle when exfoliating, or else, I might end up with irritated skin, and more obvious pores around the T-zone area.
I’ve used sugar, and flour to exfoliate before but they were quite abrasive, thus, the switch to chemical exfoliators.
Its Price & Value: Worth It!
These exfoliating face pads come in a 50 mL/1.7 fl oz container which includes 36 beautiful serum-soaked pads.
Each pad is completely soaked in the exfoliating toner that using one pad per time can be too much. So, I cut the pads in half to also make them last longer. And that gives me 72 pieces!
The peel pads are well packed in the container that comes in a double-packed box.
My only issue is that there is no enclosed tweezer to gently lift and separate a pad. I have my own tweezers but for someone who doesn’t have them, contamination might be very likely!
The Scent: Smells Refreshing
These exfoliating pads smells like cucumbers and mint, and that smell is very refreshing!
The fragrance is organic, and my sesnsitive skin seems to be okay with it, since I haven’t had any breakout from using the peel pads. Kudos!
Ingredients & Their Quality: Sensitive-Skin-Friendly!
If you have sensitive skin, this is your go-to!
I personally have very reactive skin, and at least 5 minutes (and at most 3 days) after using a wrong product, my face gets rashy and I have to stop using such a product. I haven’t had any reaction from this peel pad so I vouch for it!
These are PHA peel pads hence perfect for gently exfoliating and hydrating sensitive skin. Particularly, Gluconolactone, and Lactobionic Acid are included in the formulation.
Extracts of cucumber, green tea, and eucalyptus are also included to give a cooling and invigorating feeling to the skin. Also, green tea extract and Vitamin E are powerful antioxidants that help combat free radical damage.
The blend of Vitamins A, C, and E help provide an antioxidant and luminous effect on the skin.
Its Texture & Feel: Nubby Texture
The peel pads have a nubby texture that feels quite rough and this helps with the exfoliation process as well. However, you want to apply little pressure to your skin in the process.

Since the beautiful pads are already soaked, you want to clean your face gently then smooth the pad over the entire face and neck in a circular motion.
Massage the remaining product into your skin, and let your skin absorb all the goodness for a few minutes, probably, 5 minutes.
The product leaves my face slightly sticky so I follow with a moisturizing sunscreen (a normal moisturizer would also do as long as you still wear SPF). I use the Exuviance Skin-caring BB Fluid with Sunscreen, SPF 50++++ and the combination is a match made in heaven!
Tingling is a very common side effect, just so you know. If you cannot tolerate the sensation, cut the pad into half so you can use just a little of it; it’s usually enough actually!
The Results: An Instant Glow!
My goodness!!! I love how my skin glows immediately after using the product. As soon as I’ve massaged the product into my skin, it’s more luminous.
With continued usage (over 4 weeks now), my skin is visibly brighter and smoother. It’s been a while ever since I saw whiteheads saying HI around my nose region. YAY!
Our Verdict: This Is It!
My skin is oily and tends to texture really quick so I used to exfoliate between 2-3 times a week.
Now I have more time to incorporate other hydrating serums into my skin, and clay masks to draw out gunk from my pores, and my skin is doing well; I believe because of the good exfoliation I get on the surface of my skin!
