Almost each one of us has gone through that age when we were beset by acne. Those unpleasant pimples on your face that always pop up right before any important occasion or function.
It may seem like acne, pimples, blackheads are something normal which one experiences during the age of puberty.
However, for some people, acne continues to pop up even after their teenage years. Acne is the most common skin problem and a lot of acne is mostly hormonal-driven.
Products like Revitol acnezine solution treats breakouts while helping your skin heal, making it soft and helping you achieve clear skin.
The hormones that cause this type of acne are fluctuations of estrogen and progesterone, which both vary widely throughout the menstrual cycle month. The ratio of each of these hormones to each other can also affect women’s testosterone levels, and can also be causative in hormonal acne.
Below are 5 signs of hormonal acne. If you have any of these symptoms, then it’s probably hormonal acne:

5 Signs Of Hormonal Acne
1. Hormonal acne is predominant in the lower part of your face.
It usually happens around the chin, mouth and the jawline. One of the main signs of a hormonal breakout is its location on the face. If you’re noticing inflamed cysts around your lower face especially your chin and jawline area you can bet your bottom dollar that it’s probably hormonal.
Derms don’t exactly know why this beard of acne is a thing in women, but it comes down to too much oil production clogging up your pores.
2. If you’re above the age of 20 or have already crossed your teenage, then this can be hormonal type acne.
It is because usually after the age of 20, hormones become more active in women. But age alone won’t determine whether or not you’ll break out. Genetics can dictate when hormonal breakouts start and stop.
3. Hormonal acne produces deep and painful pimples.
It is probably hormonal acne if you’re suffering from painful and cystic bumps. These painful cysts manifest as deeper bumps that are under the skin’s surface and cannot be extracted with normal manual extraction either by an individual or an aesthetician.
These bumps are usually tender to the touch because they’ve accumulated oil over a period of days or weeks that then causes an inflammatory reaction.
4. The high levels of Androgen, male hormones are a huge causative factor behind the occurrence of acne.
Androgen is present in females in small quantities. Women who are prone to monthly hormonal fluctuations, which are quite steep, and have periods of acute stress, are setting up a ‘perfect storm’ for themselves to get a hormonal acne flare.
5. Hormonal breakouts recur each month.
They actually incline to pop up in the same place each month as well.
Here’s How to Treat Hormonal Acne
Hormonal breakouts tend to pop up in the same place each month as well. This is usually the result of a particular pore being enlarged in size by a previous pimple.
If you’re triggered by hormonal acne, the following are the ways we suggest that can help in treating acne.
-
Reconsider your diet.
Eliminate the food that can cause the problem. Eat lots of vegetables and eat foods with a lower glycemic index. Foods particularly inflammation-fighting foods may help in reducing the acne.

-
Don’t consume too much milk or dairy products.
Rather increase fiber consumption in your overall diet.
-
Take Anti-androgen drugs.
Since androgen is responsible for causing acne, it is important to pills that are anti-androgen. These drugs will decrease the effects of testosterone present in the body.
-
Apply diluted Tea Tree Oil.
Tea tree oil works best for the acne as they decrease the inflammation that causes acne. Revitol Acnezine solution contains tea tree oil and lemon peel oil which helps to fight in acne-causing bacteria. This product is perfect for reducing the spots and fading scars.
-
Choose cleansers that have salicylic or glycolic acid present in them.
The presence of these acids will help in exfoliating the skin.

If you’re using any product, we recommend you to apply only a pea-size.
Don’t take too much of any acne product. If you apply too much of the product, it may dry out your skin and further cause irritation.
-
Do not stress.
Cortisol, the stress hormone affects all your hormones and has a huge impact on hormonal acne. The presence of more cortisol in your body increases the level of androgens in the body and as mentioned, higher androgens cause more acne.
-
Take vitamins and herbs.
-
At last, be active and exercise.
Exercising will help you create a perfect environment for hormonal breakouts.

Having hormonal acne is the worst!! Like I am an adult this should not be happening lol. I love your tips to help treat it though, I know cutting down on dairy helps me for sure.
I surely hope you get over it Jessica; it definitely sounds unpleasant lol ??
Anyway, thanks for stopping by!?
I definitely have this and my dermatologist has me trying differin gel. I’m also going to try the tea tree oil. Thanks for that suggestion.
You’re welcome Laurie; I sure hope that tree tea oil works for you.
Hugs!
I have hormonal acne. It is so annoying! I use regular cleansers, but I use bare minerals blemish remedy makeup when I am having a breakout and it helps quite a bit.
I know how it can be annoying lol! I recall how mine were and I’m glad I’m over them now! As Tressie says in the post, using a pea size of it works! Hope you get over them too!
Xoxo!
I appreciate this post. I do deal with hormonal acne and it can be such a challenge to deal with. I’m always looking for help and advice.
I’m glad you loved the read Hollie. You could give the tips a try and I hope they work for you…just as they have for me!

Acne is the worst! I’ve never considered that it could be from our hormones, I’ll have to keep the treatment options in mind.
You’re right Ally! It can be even more stressing if it’s hormone-controlled but I’m glad you’ll keep this in mind.
Hugs!
I had clear skin and then I had kids and I had acne. Now that I am older, I no longer have those zits.
I think acne ceases as one grows older Tara and that’s much better than having to deal with them when older. But even so, hormonal acne could break out thus needs proper care of the face.
Xoxo!
My granddaughter is dealing with hormonal acne and she gets so frustrated. She’s seeing a dermatologist for it but it doesn’t seem to be helping. Her mom still has to use things for her acne so it might be something she has inherited. My daughter has been using Revitol acnezine solution and it’s helping her but I’m not sure if of the ages on it. We might need to look into that since nothing from the derm is helping Alyssa.
Hi Terri,
When it comes to dealing with acne, I suggest sticking to what only works. If Revitol works for her and not what her derm gives her, then she shouldn’t mix up to avoid worse scenarios. At least I did that.
Glad you dropped by Terri.
Very much helpful to teenager. A teen would definitely would have gone through emotional stress and this tips would help them
Yea, you’re right Sibi. Teens have the worst time dealing with acne so the tips will be helpful.
Thanks for stopping by!
I’m sure I have this at times. My face will randomly break out, and it’s not fun at all.
It’s never fun at all…happens to me too at times although bar soap works so fast for me. I’m also keen on my diet Amber. You could also use the tips lol!
Xoxo!
Great tips, I think I need to check my diet.
Please do so Sylvia.
Ciao!
I used to have hormonal acne! It was terrible, I couldn’t stand it. I’m so glad that stage of life is over!
I can definitely relate Jessica.
Hugs!
I most definitely need to read this! I still suffer with hormonal breakouts these days and I would do anything to calm them down just a little bit more. So I will go through these ideas.
Hi Sarah, you can also give the ideas a try… especially about using Revitol solution. Could work for you too Sarah.
Hugs!
This definitely is something that affects most women from time to time. I find that when my face starts breaking out, I wash my face with a Panoxyl Bar and it clears up pretty quickly. It’s not expensive, and works really well with only washing my face once a day.
Wow! Me too. Ever since I got over them, I’ve been using only bar soap on my skin and it actually clears everything up.
Thanks for dropping by!?
My friend has been struggling with this for a long time. Thanks for sharing. Will be sharing with her.
I’ll be grateful for the share Pradnya; hoping she gets over it with the tips.
My daughter didn’t get acne until she was graduated from high school. I wonder if this is why; texting her your link.
Hi Rosey,
We usually expect acne while in high school although it can happen afterwards just as it did for me. Anyway, I’m certain she will relate with the tips.
Hugs!
Before having kids, I used to have horrible breakouts and now I’m so pleased(Can’t even explain it) that I don’t have those breakout anymore, I can’t even say it’s because of my skin regime or anything. Maybe, I’m just blessed 🙂 That said, I think this is a very helpful and informative post. Thanks for sharing x
Aaaw! That’s so sweet to hear Kamapala. Well, I end to see that breakouts chill out with age, that might be the case for you.
Hugs!
Great tips. I went through hormonal acne. It was a tough time.
It’s no doubt a tough time Wanda…but I’m glad we’re over it,right?
What an interesting post! I learned so much about acne, I wish I could have read this when I was younger, ha ha. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Yeah Lavanda…I wish I knew earlier too but I’m.glad it’s not so late, right?
I sometimes get these huge painful acne spots around my jawline. I had a feeling they were hormonal, but now I know for sure.
Ooh…I’m glad you now know JoJo…so that with these tips, you can deal with them whenever such pops up.
Xoxo!
This is an incredibly common problem. It is awesome how you gave some tips to determine it is present because it is important to know the true cause if you want a good solution.
You’re so right Debby; knowing the cause and the symptoms makes it easy to start dealing with the acne.
Hugs!
Hormonal acne is the worst! My sister dealt with it bad, and would complain about how painful her pimples were. These are great tips, and I can vouch that they work!
Wow! It’s nice to hear that from you Amber…hope that’s what sorted out your sister’s acne.
Anyway, glad you stopped by!
I love your skin it looks so smooth and radiant. You got me jealous. LOL. By the way, I have checked all of these signs which means that my breakouts are hormonal. It was so painful and it hinders me from wearing make up. Thanks for the tips. I would invest more on my skin care from now on.
Aaaw…thank you Princess. Mind you, I also had hormonal acne until I decided to work on them and here I am, having them no more. Hope you get over yours too lol!
Xoxo!
Now, this is a beneficial read. I understand that hormonal and adult acne can be so frustrating and even quite upsetting. There are ways to help combat it through by implementing a better diet, drinking more water, and lowering stress levels.
Wow! That’s awesome Angelle. I’m so happy this relates since adult acne can be so frustrating!
You have some great, natural options mixed in here – thanks for sharing those! I’ll have to try the tea tree oil (it always smells so amazing!)
Oh yeah! Tree tea oil is always so amazing . Please try it lol!
Xoxo!
Ug! I get one every single month. It’s such a pain, but I am also so glad that it’s just a tiny bit of a nuisance.
Ugh! Nuisance for sure…although just one can be dealt with next time Jennifer.?
Really enjoyed learning about hormaonal acne. I have a few pop up every once in a while that’s painful. Thank you for the tips on how to take care of our skin.
You’re welcome Jana; you’re now sorted if they dare to pop up again, right?

Thanks for best advice to HORMONAL ACNE,,, I will reserve this.I think we are getting many solutions from you. Especially that you tell me what this kinds of acne is like and it’s natural treatment,,,with best regards..
You’re welcome Madison. Glad this is helpful.
I really like how you said that one of the signs of hormonal acne is if you notice inflamed skin around your lower face. My niece is having a hard time keeping her acne at bay in the lower areas of her jaw and face. I’m sure she’d really benefit from an acne consultation with an online dermatologist so she can get the necessary treatment for her hormonal acne. Thanks for the tips.
Oh yes, it’s always proper to consider a dermatologist’s opinion. I did that too.
Xoxo!
You mentioned that after the age of 20, hormones become more active in women. It makes sense that acne popping up after this age is a sign of hormonal acne. I’ll start looking for a dermatologist in my area so they can help me understand the best acne treatment for me so I can get rid of all of my acne.
Oh yes Kate. You’d indeed want to do that. I did and I’m acne free right now.
Xoxo!
I highly recommend dermalmd blemish serum for those one-off singular hormonal breakouts that are huge and could last on your face for a week+. Using dermalmd serum reduces it to 2 days without harsh effects of rubbing alcohol. Very happy to have found this. So much for your $$—this serum bottle will easily last 1-2 years.
Wow! Such a great tip Lourdes. Thank you for sharing.
Xoxo!
I have bought dermalmd blemish serum for my daughter who suffers from bad skin as a hormonal teenager. After using them for a couple of months have noticed a reduction in the inflammation and breakouts.
That’s good to know Yehtun. Actually, serums are so powerful and good enough, target specific skin conditions.
Hugs!
I used to get the usual hormonal chin and jawline acne regularly. I’ve used dermalmd blemish serum daily since March 4 and I have not had one breakout as I had before. I still get an occasional tiny white head but not near as frequent as I was before. This has not discolored any of my clothes or towels. Overall I am very happy with dermalmd serum and smile more brightly now that I don’t have embarrassing unsightly hormonal acne anymore!
I’m so happy to hear that the dermalmd serum is working so well with you face. Keep on feeling confident!
Xoxo!
